Nigel Turner

Nigel Turner has worked in Information Management (IM) and related areas for over 25 years. This experience has embraced Data Governance, Information Strategy, Data Quality, Master Data Management & Business Intelligence.

In his current role Nigel works as Principal Consultant for EMEA at Global Data Strategy, Ltd. He has also been a Principal Consultant at Enterprise Architects / FromHereOn and IPL, where he led many Data Governance engagements. Since co-founding Global Data Strategy with Donna Burbank in 2017 he has provided consultancy, delivery and training services to a large variety of organisations in the UK, the USA, Canada, France, the Netherlands, Italy, Norway, Germany and the Middle East. In 2023 & 2024 he also acted as part time Chief Data Officer (CDO) for a global asset management company.

He spent much of his early career in British Telecommunications Group (BT) in the UK where he led a series of enterprise wide data management & data governance initiatives which brought huge benefits to BT, and were formally recognised by Gartner, Forrester and other industry analysts. He also created and led large IM & CRM consultancy & delivery practices which served BT’s global customers in the UK, Europe, the Middle East and North America. After leaving BT in 2010 Nigel became VP of Information Management Strategy at Harte Hanks Trillium Software, a leading global provider of Data Quality & Data Governance tools and consultancy. Here he engaged with over 150 customer organisations from all parts of the globe.

Nigel is a well-known thought leader in Information Management and has run tutorials and presented at and chaired many international conferences. He has also written several white papers and is a frequent blogger on information management topics.

He is also very active in professional Data Management organisations and is an elected Data Management Association (DAMA) UK Committee member. He was the joint winner of DAMA International’s 2015 Community Award for the work he initiated and led in setting up a mentoring scheme in the UK where experienced DAMA professionals coach and support newer data management professionals.

Nigel is a great advocate for keeping Data Governance as simple and business focused as possible, and feels that a key role of Information Management professionals is to help business people relate data to real business benefits. Much of his consultancy & delivery work has been to enable organisations to do this by helping them to build compelling business cases, and Data Governance processes and structures that complement existing business models and deliver the benefits of improved data management and data exploitation.
